Mahima Organic technology is a group of farmers who have joined together to the cause of organic farming.
The majority of the land under the project is in Dhar District of M.P. this area is a traditionally low chemical dependent area.
In recent years, the farmers were finding it tough to maintain fertility of soil apart from facing an increased cost of
cultivation. Amidst this, after 1996 a new concept of organic farming was introduced (although this was followed decades ago)
to get harvest from natural resources. The initial years were tough and the yields were abysmally low. But gradually,
with the help of improved procedures and with the guidance of technical experts, the yield has started improving.
Meeting are duly geld with farmers to make them aware of all the technical details of organic farming. The farmers are supplied various literature and other material showing procedures of organic farming. When a farmer wishes to join the project, all his land details along with sowing pattern of recent years is duly verified. The presence of cattle in his farm, the irrigation system, the capability of separate organic crop from others crops, the mentality of farmer are some of the aspects which are analyzed. If the project manager is fully satisfied with the record of farmer, an agreement is made with the farmer for organic production.
The organic production is duly supervised to ensure compliance with international
standards. Harvesting and post harvesting procedures are
framed to avoid any mixing of organic with non-organic
crops.
The project is certified by skal Netherland, which ensures
full compliance with EEC Regulations 2092/91
